By Carol Wright

If you spend enough time online and in web based business, you will find all sorts of amazing fails that other people have done. The truth is that there is an awful lot of learning that can be done by paying attention to the mistakes that other people have made. On the other hand, you need to get to a place where you recognize something as being a costly error. The title tags on your website are incredibly important; there is no room or excuse for failure with them.

Sometimes title tags are missing from the website or blog, a very common occurrence. If you look, and it’s not there, the webmaster simply forgot to put it in. You need to be able to add title tags to your websites. This is a basic 101 Internet marketing strategy for optimization. Each page on your website focuses on a certain keyword or phrase. This is what we are referencing. You might want to pick up a book on SEO factors. Make sure talks about on page and off page SEO so that you can get up to speed on this topic if you are not already. It really can hurt your SEO efforts if you do not have a title tag. This is a mistake that you probably do not want to make.

When you are an offline business or want to be able to market your business to local buyers, make sure your tag includes your geographic location. When you want to go for geo-targeting, this is something that you simply have to do.

You have to look at your location and what will be a good idea in terms of search marketing. Sometimes what is best is to go with specifics and the most narrowly defined title tag. If you are in a large and congested metro area, then you would not want to use the tag for the broadest search in your area. Instead, what you should do is use your district or the name of your neighborhood.

All mistakes with SEO on page factors are 100% avoidable if you have the right information at your fingertips. We know beginners are trying and well-meaning, plus if you do not know about something then you do not know. Case in point, and what we are leading up to, is that the words “Home Page” should never be in the title tag – ever! You will not see this kind of blunder on the first page because they know what they’re doing. If you do happen to see it, this means that people do not know what they are doing. Most people do not optimize a website for the word Home Page. If they are, this is a rare occurrence. You will definitely do yourself a favor by avoiding this error.

You can actually be fairly creative with your title tags, so long as you follow the rules that are set for their creation. There are some things that you can use that will help you grab the eyes and attentions of your readers. You also know how they have to be written so that they will include the phrases that you think are the best.
